School-Wide Tier 1 Literacy Models at the Middle School Level

In this module, you will learn why school-wide Tier 1 literacy models are necessary at the middle school level. You’ll also receive an overview of what works for middle schoolers who need literacy support.

Comprehension Canopy training and Handouts

In this training, you will learn how to implement the Comprehension Canopy strategy in your literacy lesson. This brief, five-minute strategy sets students up for success by hooking them into the content of the lesson. Handouts are provided.

Essential Words training and Handouts

In this training, you will learn how to implement the Essential Words strategy in your literacy lesson. Essential Words uses explicit instruction to pre-teach one key vocabulary term to students prior to reading a text. Handouts are provided.

Critical Reading

In this training, you will learn how to implement the Critical Reading strategy in your literacy lesson. Critical Reading teaches the “Get the Gist” strategy, which teaches students to identify the main idea and key supporting details of a passage. Handouts are provided.
